JOS spiral staircase cuts installation time in half
When Jakob Josefsson, a product developer at Weland, visited a construction site in the Swedish town of Smålandsstenar to oversee the installation of a JOS spiral staircase, what he saw perfectly illustrated one of the many advantages of this unique staircase design. The short installation time surprised the fitters from Naij Bygg, who had initially believed that the work would take a full day.
“In place before lunch”
The installation, which was carried out at a new build industrial unit in the town, went considerably faster than anyone had expected. In contrast to a traditional spiral staircase of the same dimensions, which usually takes around eight hours to install, the JOS staircase was fitted in only four hours.
– The staircase was up and finished well before lunch. The fitters, who had anticipated spending the whole day on the job, had time to move onto another project in the afternoon, says Josefsson.
Smart design the key
One of the reasons why a JOS staircase can be installed so quickly is its clever design. The staircase is built as an integrated unit, with the staircase and railing welded together into a single structure. In addition, fitters can work inside the staircase during the assembly process, creating a safe and efficient working environment. This eliminates the need for scaffolding, ladders, or scissor lifts, which are often essential when installing a traditional spiral staircase.
– Installation time didn’t factor into our thinking when we were designing the JOS staircase, but that we’ve managed to make the process so fast is truly serendipitous. The design also makes things safer for fitters as they can work protected inside the staircase, says Josefsson.
Design and sustainability in harmony
In additional to being easy to install, the JOS staircase has a modern, industrial aesthetic that is appreciated by Michael Forsberg of Naij Bygg.
– I like the fact that the staircase is integrated and looks worked. It has an attractive, industrial design that really appeals to me.
The staircase also has a smaller carbon footprint than many traditional alternatives, making it a sustainable choice for the future. As demand for sustainable building solutions is exploding, this is sure to be a major advantage.
– We believe increased demand for sustainable products will drive interest in the JOS spiral staircase, says Josefsson.
Naij Bygg’s Forsberg is just as happy with the staircase as the company’s fitters.
– The JOS spiral staircase is supremely simple to handle and install. In our business, time is money, and being able to cut installation times in half is a major boon for both us and the end customer.
Josefsson and the team at Weland believe the future for the JOS staircase is bright.
– The easy installation, industrial design, and low environmental impact give the JOS staircase all the criteria to be the number one choice for many of our customers, he says.
